HALO is Having a Birthday!

On Friday, HALO is going to have their 10th Annual ArtReach Auction and 10 Year Birthday Celebration! Everyone at the HALO Learning center is hard at work to prepare! Four high school students from St. Theresa's Academy of Kansas City were helpingout in the HALO Learning Center for their Service Week this week. As you can see, they are very focused on last minute prep for the birthday bash!

If you still don't have your tickets for this amazing event, hurry and get your tickets! Online purchasing closes this Thursday at noon! Not only will there be live music, once-in-a-lifetime auction and raffle items, and all the birthday fun you can imagine, but all proceeds go directly to supporting homeless and at-risk youth locally and abroad.

We are so appreciative of our St. Theresa's students, and want YOU to see all of our efforts, ten years in the making, on this special night.
Hope to see you there!

HALO Center Makes a New Friend--And New Art!

Last week, the HALO Learning Center had an extraordinary visitor to one of our therapeutic art workshops--Miss Missouri Teen USA Christina Stratten!

February's life skill is Self-Discipline, so youth (and Miss Missouri Teen USA!) tried their hand at Tape Art--using tape on canvas can create some cool patterns for painting, but also takes time and focus, and can be fairly tedious! With unique, interesting, and complex designs, Youth got to practice how sometimes the things that take the most self-discipline can be the most rewarding and beautiful in the end. Youth and Christina also took a small break to pass around and try on her crown! HALO is so fortunate to have the support and efforts of Miss Missouri Teen USA behind them--Christina is a great role model and support to our youth.

You can also see Christina at our 10th Annual Art Auction & 10th Birthday Party Celebration on Feb. 27th at Sporting KC! To learn more about this once-in-a-lifetime event (and purchase tickets) go to our HALO Worldwide website . Get your tickets fast before the best party of the year is sold out!

HALO Youth Dream Again!

Despite the cold weather outside, at the HALO Learning Center, spring has sprung!
The spring semester has just started again, and for the next eight weeks at Operation Breakthrough, the youth are going to be working on achieving their dreams again with dream journals! The workshop is a continuation of Fall 2014's group of youth and they are so excited to talk about their dreams again! From being a super star, to being a teacher, to getting a dog, or getting married, every dream is important to every youth and they are super excited to express their dreams and hopes creatively.
For the next eight weeks, though, dreaming won't stop at the dream journals! From goals, to music, to their favorite characters, every youth is going to have every opportunity to express themselves!

HALO Youth Go On A Time Mission!

HALO Youth's life skill for January was Goal-Setting. All month, youth worked on setting and achieving their own goals. They wrapped up the month with a very special project--time capsules!
Youth were asked to write themselves a letter that they would open up at their own chosen date, whether it be a month from now, a year from now, next Christmas, or ten years from now! They wrote down all the goals, pieces of advice, and aspirations they had for that time period. Their personal time capsule letters were sealed shut in their own personally decorated papers and envelopes. Now as our January life skill is officially wrapped up, the youth move forward with a special piece of time just for them.
