The Kansas City HALO Learning Center “Independent Swag 2013: Be YOUnique, BeYOUtiful, Be YOU”, third annual youth fashion show highlights, supporting at-risk youth from Kansas City residential centers.
- 35 HALO youth participated from 6 agency partners: ReStart YES, Operation Breakthough, Big Brothers Big Sisters, Salvation Army Children’s Shelter, Hillcrest Transitional, Pathways Transition House
- 29 youth workshops: DJing, Cosmetology, Photography, Improv, Marketing and Fashion
- 28 upcycled outfits created with a $5 thrift store budget for each youth, spending less than $50 for 35 youth
- 32 tie dyed BeYOUunique t-shirts created
- 1 HALO youth offered a job at Ultimate DJ + Karaoke. EXCITING!
- 33 volunteers
- 150 attendees
- 16 sponsors
- Raised almost $3,000 to support HALO Learning Center youth programs
