Last week, HALO Youth attended Science Day at Chekanova’s Lab with the support of students from UMKC’s School of Biological Sciences. HALO Youth planted seeds, experimented with dry ice, and examined their own DNA under microscopes. The HALO Youth enjoyed the opportunity to explore a college campus and work with college students and professors. We are thankful the youth had this opportunity to have fun with science!

Setting Goals With HALO Youth
This month, HALO’s life skill is goal-setting. We love starting the year off by exploring what we hope to accomplish throughout the year and HALO youth are inspiring us to set big goals! Last week, HALO youth created Goal Pennants and listed health, relationship, attitude, and school goals for 2014. This week, HALO youth are creating Goal Boards where they explore the steps they need to take to meet their goals. We can’t wait to support the youth as they accomplish these meaningful goals in 2014!

2013 HALO Learning Center Highlights
-
2013 was an exciting year full of growth and creativity at the HALO Learning Center! The HALO youth participated in short-term workshops where they created superhero capes, gratitude boxes, and much more. Through our long-term workshops, the youth had the opportunity to learn everything from woodworking to cosmetology to improv skills. The Independent Swag Fashion Show and Passport Day events were a huge success and we look forward to expanding the programs next year. As always, endless thanks to our relentless volunteers and donors. We are looking forward to 2014!
